I Got The Chance To Speak To Students in Ghana West Africa And It Was Epic
Yesterday, Unheard Voices was invited to speak to students in Ghana, West Africa about the company and the importance of media. If you already don’t know, I’m the CEO/Editor-in-Chief of Unheard Voices Magazine, LLC and its entities, Jerseyvoices.com & Unheard Underground. At Asbury Park Middle School, now called Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, History teacher David Wronko holds these educational sessions in his classroom. Each Friday students in the middle school get to make presentations on American culture and Ghana culture to the students in Ghana via satellite. It is a learning experience for all, but mostly importantly, an amazing epic chance for each culture to connect with one another.
On Friday, October 28th, 2016, this session was a presentation by Asbury Park Middle School student Kayla Byrd on American and Ghanaian music. After the presentations, student Kavon Peterson conducted a science experimentation on how to make a homemade lava lamp with the help of his science teacher Mr. Mason.
After the presentations, it was then time for Unheard Voices to speak. My father went first and talked briefly about how he got the media company started and his ultimate goal. My father’s story is one to tell as he shares his story of loss and rising through adversity being the foremost reason why Unheard Voices was started. He started Unheard Voices to be a voice for the African-American/black community in the Asbury Park, Neptune, and Long Branch, NJ areas. It has now blossomed into an online magazine catering to all voices aboard.
I then spoke to the students about my position as CEO/Editor-in-Chief and the divisions we have under the company. The students had so many questions about running an online magazine, to what was my most popular article that I have written. I was more than happy to answer their questions and encouraged them to apply as contributors to write for the online magazine, as we would love to have them.
It was an amazing experience being able to speak with my brothas and sistas in my homeland. It was great connecting with them and hearing how excited they were to hear about an online magazine, for the people by the people!
